2024-2025 DANCE TEAM AUDITIONS

The Georgia Southern University Dance Team performs in jazz, pom and hip-hop styles throughout the year. All three styles are very different, but require expertise in each category for game performances and in competition. Dancers will be judged on their technique, as well as their ability to quickly learn and retain choreography, while still performing with high energy.

**You must fill out the registration form below which will prompt you to pay the registration fee. You must be registered and payment received in full prior to the day of auditions.

**Please click on the following link for the 2024-2025 Georgia Southern Dance Team Audition Packet. Please complete the required document and bring with you to the audition. Please do not forget to bring your photo/headshot. 
 

Audition Requirements:

  • Official proof that you are a GSU student (Letter of acceptance, Eagle ID, current class schedule, etc.)

  • Must have and maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and be in good standing with the university. Students cannot be on any form of academic and/or disciplinary probation.

  • Must maintain a full time student 

  • Completed Application Packet (link is above - print and bring with you to auditions)

  • Non-refundable $30 application fee (Proceed with payment below)

  • Photo/Headshot (New dance team members only)

  • Note: Returning members of the team must have left the team in good standing the previous year.

Technique Requirements:

  • Triple Pirouettes
  • A la Second Turns 

  • Grande Jetés

  • Center Leap (side leap) 

  • Spinning Disk (turning center)

  • Calypso Leap

  • Splits (left, right, and center)

  • Basic pom motions

  • Tumbling skills are optional, but encouraged

Audition Attire: 

  • Black shorts

  • Black sports bra/cropped top (Embellishments/rhinestones allowed)

  • Full performance hair and make-up

  • Jazz shoes (any color); tennis shoes may be worn during
    hip hop choreography session

  • Stud earrings are acceptable, but no other jewelry is permitted

Video Auditions:

The live auditions are MANDATORY and every dancer is strongly

encouraged to attend. A video tryout will only be allowed in extenuating

circumstances and upon approval by Coach Stephanie Viness
gasoutherndance@gmail.com.

If approved for a video audition, the following requirements include:

  • Begin the video with a short introduction including

        your name, hometown, brief dance background, etc.

  • Demonstrating all required technical skills listed above.

       (may include additional skills)

  • Perform two separate routines of your choice,

       must include at least 45 seconds of choreography each.

       Routine submissions must include a Jazz OR Lyrical routine AND

       a Pom routine.

Video auditions must be approved by the coach and emailed by April 15, 2024.

Where will auditions be held?
Auditions are held at Georgia Southern's recreational activities center (RAC), located at 2687 Bunny Akins boulevard, Statesboro, GA 30458. Please arrive at the registration time for processing, and personal stretching.

 

What do I need to bring to auditions?
Make sure to bring your dance shoes, and please bring a water bottle and a snack.

Will auditions be open to the public?
Auditions will be closed to the public.

 

Do current team members have to re-audition?
Yes, all returning members must go through the audition process each season. No spots on the team are guaranteed.

What does it take to make the Georgia Southern Dance Team?

Dance technique and skills, being versatile in jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and pom styles, punctuality, showmanship, enthusiasm, showcasing your true blue spirit, maintaining physical fitness, personal appearance, and always being a team player. 

What is the time commitment?
The time commitment usually consists of approximately 6-8 hours each week for practice, and will increase during the middle of basketball season as well as preparation for the NDA Nationals competition. Dancing for Georgia Southern will be a priority over all social and Greek commitments.
